WFU applauds Gov. Doyle for signing wind siting standards bill

Chippewa Falls, Wis. (Sept. 30, 2009) - Wisconsin Farmers Union thanked Gov. Jim Doyle today for signing the wind siting standards bill. WFU President Sue Carlson said it was an important step toward creating new on-farm renewable energy projects in Wisconsin and will provide a much-needed boost to the state's economy.

The bill implements uniform, statewide standards for small and medium-sized wind energy installations in the state.

"We would like to thank Gov. Doyle for signing and the state Legislature for passing the wind siting bill," Carlson said. "Effective statewide wind siting standards will allow farmers to build wind turbines on their farms, creating green jobs and clean energy."

The wind siting bill passed the state Assembly on Sept. 16 and the state Senate on Sept. 15. The law will trigger a rule-making process by the Public Service Commission to formulate statewide standards for wind siting in Wisconsin.
