WFU: Feingold's bill will give consumers better choices
Chippewa Falls, Wis. (Oct. 19, 2009) - When country-of-origin labeling was implemented last fall, one important food group was left out - dairy. Wisconsin Farmers Union President Doug Caruso today thanked U.S. Sen. Russ Feingold, D-Wis., for introducing legislation that would require all dairy products sold retail to be labeled with their countries of origin.
U.S. Sens. Al Franken, D-Minn., and Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio, co-sponsored the bill.
"With the dairy crisis our nation's farmers are facing, Dairy COOL is an important step toward solving the problem. With an increasing number of imported dairy products, consumers have a right to know where their dairy products are produced," Caruso said.
"We thank Sen. Feingold for offering consumers the choice to buy products produced by America's family farmers through this important legislation. WFU urges Congress to pass this legislation quickly," he said.
