After one of the most historic and divisive elections in our nation’s history, most citizens would probably like to take a break from the news cycle and focus on other things in life. I can appreciate that feeling, but now, more than ever, we need to do everything we can to make sure our voices are heard at all levels of government. There are so many issues that affect all of us in different ways, and it is imperative
that we as farmers and rural citizens come together to bring light to the things that matter most to us, and then find ways to solve them constructively. Please consider joining Wisconsin Farmers Union for our upcoming Farm & Rural Lobby Day on Tuesday, February 28, 2017 in Madison, WI.
The issues we will cover include protecting groundwater for current and future generations, improving rural high-speed
internet, securing funding for rural schools and town and county roads in the state budget, and support
family farmers during difficult times.
“Why do they need me to come to Madison? Don’t we have people on staff who do this for us?”
Yes, Kara and I discuss these and many other issues that affect our members and rural citizens with legislators quite often, but hearing those comments and concerns from you, the person that legislator represents, is of greater importance. There’s no better way to express your thoughts and concerns to your elected representatives than to be actively engaged in your government, and WFU’s Lobby Day
helps put a face and voice to those thoughts and concerns.
Our day starts at 10:30 AM at Bethel Lutheran Church, 312 Wisconsin Ave., located just north of the Capitol. The church does not have parking for our group, so please park in the Carroll St. parking ramp. At 11:00 AM, WFU Government Relations staff will go over the issues we will be discussing with legislators, followed by lunch at 12:30 PM. After lunch, we will walk to the Capitol where we will meet with elected officials and their staff until around 4:00 PM.
Registration is easy. Simply go to www.wisconsinfarmersunion.com, hover over the “News and Events” tab, and click on “Upcoming Events.” From there, you can scroll down to the event, where there is an online registration link, as well as a link that takes you to a mail-in registration form. Also, please let us know if you’d like to carpool to the event, or if a van would be easier, and we will arrange it.
We need your voice. We need your story. We need you to join us on February 28 for WFU’s Farm & Rural Lobby Day.
